INTERVIEW: Knox Hamilton

Knox Hamilton is a band founded in Little Rock, AR made up of brothers, Boots and Cobo Copeland, as well as guitarist Drew Buffington. Monica recently had the opportunity to ask Boots a few questions about their music, concerts, and future of the band.

How would you describe your music to those who don’t know you?

I’m not sure if we’re alternative pop/indie/or rock. We’re pop with a few rock songs.

Could you explain where the name “Knox Hamilton” came from to some of our readers who might not know?

While volunteering at a thrift shop in my high school days I was flipping through a 1972 Parkview HS yearbook and saw a rad rocker dude and his name was Knox Hamilton.

Do you know anything about Knox Hamilton himself? Who is he?

We‘ve discovered a few things over the years, met his family, but we like to keep the mystery alive.

Does he know he has a band named after him?

He does. His mom loves us. We met her at a show and took a pic with her. It was surreal.

What do you like more, playing to new people on a tour or playing a hometown show with some familiar faces?

Tough call. Not sure I like one more than the other. It’s overwhelming to see the same people coming back time after time to support us but it’s also a thrill to make new friends/fans.

Who are some of your favorite artists that you’ve met — at a music festival, when opening for them, etc?

Blue October, Switchfoot, Spoon to name a few, and in no particular order.

What is your favorite song to play live?

Fav song to play is either How’s Your Mind or Pretty Way To Fight. Head bangers.

When can we expect new music from you?

May, we hope!

Do you have any advice for artists smaller than yourselves trying to build a community like yours?

Sounds cheesy but don’t give up. For real.
