INTERVIEW: Nowhere To Be Found

Alternative metal four-piece Nowhere To Be Found released their third single on November 8th, 2019 alongside an October TV debut on a new CBS show called "Songs of the Underground." Forming in 2017, the band changed their lineup and shared their heavier sound. Nowhere To Be Found recently spoke with us about their biggest inspirations, the importance of their music, and gave some advice for young musicians eager to get themselves started.

What inspires you to keep going during tough times? Family. And by family we mean friends also, the family you choose. We’re no different from everyone else, just because we express ourselves in an artistic way and maybe we expose some more of us than most people.

How do you find the drive and determination to keep going? The belief we have that we’re making something special here, even if sometimes results are not what we wished. The fan’s support is super important, fortunately we have tens of messages per day on social media, sometimes people telling us how our music helped them through tough times, and that really motivates us. We can’t let them down.

What bands/ artists encouraged you to start making music? That’s a really tough question, we’re close friends but we come from very different musical backgrounds. Manel (bass) is an indie guy, probably Nine Inch Nails and Deftones really built him as a musician, Migalhas (drums) comes from punk and ska (Sublime, Green Day, etc.), Tiago (vocals) is a grunge and numetal native (Nirvana, Incubus, etc.) and Quintais (lead guitar) is a metalhead (Slipknot, Alter Bridge, etc.). So you see, we’re a melting pot!

What are the next steps you want to achieve? We really want to get ourselves out there and grow our fan base, in order to play more live, bigger shows and festivals. Right now that’s the main goal, get through to more people, we believe our music has what it takes.

Any plans on touring this year? Working on it as we speak!

Who would you like to tour with in the future? Right now, our number one pick would be Bring Me The Horizon. We love their old music and we are absolutely inspired by the change they came to make to their sound.

For those who haven’t listened to you yet, how would you describe your music?  Well the best way to describe our music is: we are metalcore heavy on the instrumental but mostly sung than screamed. People label us alternative metal, melodic metalcore or even post hardcore but we don’t really think about that, we just create as we feel.

What is the most important thing about your music to you? Its meaningfulness. We write about our lives, our wins and losses, so the most important is it’s real. It’s not fake or artificial. We’re not pretending to be someone else or appeal to someone we’re not.

What would you like to say to aspiring musicians out there that are struggling to start something themselves? Our first advice would be: focus on the music. You can create personas, dress like this or like that, wear tattoos or go to stage naked, but music is what will get you there, is what people will be drawn into. The second is: play live as much as possible. It’s SO important. When you’re playing your music to other people, you’re also receiving from them, you learn what works, and your music grows. The third and last advice is: keep true and work hard. You’ll get a thousand “no”s before getting that “yes” but if your music is good and you work hard, it’ll come. And you know what? If it doesn’t come the way you wanted it to, you’ll have fun in the process and you’ll grow.

Make sure to keep up with Nowhere To Be Found:
