REVIEW: The Band CAMINO Show

On September 6th, The Band CAMINO brought their North American Tour to their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Because it was night three of the tour, fans had a little taste of what to expect due to social media, but that did not completely prepare us for what the night held. I arrived about three hours before doors and was welcomed by a handful of ecstatic fans already waiting in line. We passed the time by talking with one another and just hanging out. I will always brag about The Band CAMINO fanbase for being some of the most kind-hearted and welcoming people you could ever meet.

VIP-goers, including myself, went back at around 6 PM. Before we went in, we were told the guys had a surprise for us. I’m not going to say what it was, in order to keep the mystery alive for upcoming shows, but just know it was perfect. After the surprise, fans were able to get a picture and talk with the band. Everyone was walking around with the biggest smiles on their faces and just all around having a great time, which is a common theme I seem to find at all The Band CAMINO shows.

Doors for general admission opened at around 7 PM. You could feel the excitement in the air as the room filled. Valley came on at about 8:30 PM and they were the perfect way to get the night started. As someone who has been a fan for about a year now, I was so stoked to finally be able to see them perform; and they did not disappoint. Their stage energy, mixed with the energetic crowd, made for an unbelievable time, and the night was just getting started. Opening with “There’s Still A Light In The House,” Valley did an incredible job getting the crowd dancing and keeping all attention on them as they continued onto other songs like “Closer To The Picture,” “Push For Yellow (Shelter),” and eventually ending their set with “Park Bench.” Make sure to show up early for these The Band CAMINO shows; you do not want to miss Valley’s performance!

After Valley’s set, everyone stood around, patiently waiting for The Band CAMINO. At 9:35 PM, the lights dimmed and the crowd started cheering; it was time for the rock show. They kicked off the night with new song “Break Me,” and, honestly, it was such a power move. This upbeat song not only kept the crowd up and dancing, but it was also the first time a lot of us had heard the song live. Surprisingly enough, the crowd knew every word for it only being out for a couple of weeks. Next was “See Through.” They played this one on their headlining tour earlier this year as well as a few sideshows, but this was a lot of fans’ first time hearing it after the release back in May. The crowd was loud the whole night, but everyone yelled all the words to “See Through” like their life depended on it. It was unreal. The next three songs, “Less Than I Do,” “Berenstein,” and “Farsighted” were also crowd favorites as everyone seemed to continue screaming the lyrics and dancing. “Farsighted,” one of the new songs, was especially fun due to the band asking the crowd to participate in singing the “oh’s” near the end of the song.

Next was “Know Me.” I will forever talk about how powerful this song is live as well as all the emotion vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Spencer Stewart puts into his performances. Yelling “I’ve got my future self in mind” with a thousand other people is honestly one of the best feelings; I can’t even describe it. They then continued to perform fan favorites: “2/14,” “Fool Of Myself,” “Honest,” and “For A While.” Again, these songs kept the crowd moving, and everyone continued having a great time. The energy at a hometown show is beyond words; everyone was euphoric the whole night. They then went onto “I Spend Too Much Time In My Room” which slowed the night down for a moment, but all eyes stayed on The Band CAMINO. Between all the emotion vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jeffery Jordan put into this performance and the crowd singing along to every word, this was probably one of my favorite songs of the night. Next was “Hush Hush” which livened up the crowd again. Again, this one being a newer song, it was a lot of the fans first time seeing it live. I don’t think I’ve seen more people dancing than I did during this song. They then slow things down again with “My Thoughts on You” but the energy was still there. Another fan favorite, this song is special live. I mention this a lot but Jeffery and Spencer both put so much emotion into their performances and it makes The Band CAMINO shows so personal, which is something I appreciate. Continuing into “Haunted,” the crowd went insane. I have never heard a louder crowd than I did with this song.

The band then exited the stage but the crowd knew it was far from over. We stood around waiting for no more than a couple minutes before the guys came back out and the beginning cords of “The Black and White” began to play. This song live will forever be a favorite of mine. Not only is it my favorite song but my favorite thing to experience is when Spencer lets the crowd sing towards the end of the song. The second to last song was “What I Want,” which is another fan favorite. The Band CAMINO ended the night with “Daphne Blue.” This is a very fun live song, whether you’re just watching the band or dancing you’ll be enjoying yourself. There’s no doubt that this is another fan favorite, everyone screamed every word.

This was a night to remember. From waiting in line to the meet and greet to the actual performance, everyone was having a great time. The Band CAMINO put so much into putting on the best shows and it definitely pays off. They also put so much into their performances, making each show their best yet. Watching these guys play rooms to twenty people to now playing sold-out shows to over a thousand blows my mind but I am so incredibly proud of them and forever will be. I am my happiest at The Band CAMINO shows. Yelling my favorite lyrics with my favorite people will always be my “home.” Everyone needs to experience a The Band CAMINO show at least once in their life. Be sure to check out their newest EP, Tryhard, (as well as all their music) and catch them at a show near you!
