REVIEW: Fall Out Boy Show

Fall Out Boy’s first show back after being off tour for months was nothing short of a success. This was my ninth Fall Out Boy show and it might have been my favorite one so far. My friend and I got there at 2 pm and waited third row for seven hours until Fall Out Boy came on. We made friends with fans around us, some of which who had camped out since 4 am and others who had flown all the way from California. Leading up to Fall Out Boy, we got to witness performances from Poppy, Bayside, and NF.

As Fall Out Boy’s set got closer and closer, we couldn’t help but get more excited. As they were checking the microphones, the crowd began singing old songs such as "Sophomore Slump," "Comeback Of The Year" and "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy." Finally, the lights went dim and we all lost our minds.

They entered the stage playing "Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes," as the crowd got covered with confetti. The first few rows were going so hard to the extent that my phone got knocked out of my hand halfway through the first song. This energy continued all night. They followed "Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes" with fan-favorites "The Phoenix" and "Irresistible;" I could barely breathe by the time they got to Irresistible. We were jumping and screaming so hard, I was very happy.

A few songs in, Pete Wentz noticed a young child in the audience. He asked how old he was and said that he noticed how the kid knows every word to every song. He responded by saying he was in fifth grade. Pete responded with “What if when you go back to school on Monday and tell your classmates that you went to a Fall Out Boy show, we make it impossible for them to believe. Say that we bring you backstage and give you a ton of merch, how would you feel about that?" The kid was ecstatic, so Pete requested to have the child and his mom brought to side-stage to watch the rest of the show from there. Once they got to side-stage, Pete hugged them both and gave them guitar picks, and Andy Hurley threw them drum sticks. This band never fails to amaze me with how big their hearts are.

This was one of the most magical Fall Out Boy shows I have ever been to. The Cincinnati Reds were playing as well and every time they hit a home-run, fireworks went off. With this being said, we got to watch a beautiful firework show while they performed. It was also Andy Hurley’s birthday, so Patrick led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to him.

By the time they got to "Saturday" and the crowd got drenched in confetti, we were sad that it was over but so happy that it had happened. As we walked out of the pit, we could barely walk, talk, or breathe. But we were so extremely happy. I could never thank this band enough for all the pure happiness that they have brought me.
