REVIEW: Set It Off Show

On March 3, fans in Philadelphia braved the impending snow to see Set It Off with supporting bands With Confidence, Super Whatevr, and local band LIFT.

LIFT (not the word, the acronym) got the party started with their hip hip inspired sound and performance. The frontman got the crowd going by encouraging them to jump and make some noise for the upcoming bands. The band members’ interactions with each other show how close they are to each other and how much they love performing with each other.

Super Whatevr kept the party going with a set that started a little early with a softer song, but it was a perfect way to get the crowd dancing as opposed to jumping. The band clearly loves performing on stage every night on tour. They have a solid discography and were able to perform a variety of songs, including one they don’t always play. They were able to keep the crowd dancing and energized for the last two bands.

With Confidence brought their pop-punk sound and got the crowd moving more than before. They played a mix of songs from both of their albums, including one from the “B Sides” and “Distance” EP’s. They even performed the alternate version of “Without Me.” Towards the end of their set, Josh (the drummer) invited their merch girl (and his girlfriend) on stage so they could sing “Happy Birthday” to her and give her a cake since her birthday is the day after the show.

To end the night, Set It Off brought a fun-filled set and performance. They started the night with a mix of songs from Duality, Upside Down, and Midnight to get the crowd moving if they weren’t already. All four members were all smiles throughout the night. To slow things down, Cody sang a heartfelt rendition of “Unopened Windows” in the city his father was from. He explained the meaning behind the song and how much performing a song about his father in his hometown meant to him. Members of the crowd held hand-cut blue circles to hold up in front of phone lights to show support for Cody.

To keep things going, they kept performing songs from their three most recent albums. Maxx also had a fantastic drum solo medley of cover songs to keep the crowd happy. The band also performed a full band medley of songs off of all four of their full-length albums.

Ultimately, Set It Off always puts on an amazing show, no matter how bad the weather is outside. Despite the terrible weather, the crowd appeared to have a great night.
