REVIEW: "Sleep Tight, Socialite" by Wanderwild

Wanderwild is an indie-rock band out of Athens, Georgia. The band consists of Matt Martin (vocals and guitar), Taylor Cotton (bass guitar) and Wes Gregory (drums).

Wanderwild released their first EP, “Fleeting,” on March 26, 2016. Since then, they have released their first album, “In Due Time,” and now their second album, “Sleep Tight, Socialite."

Platinum: This song starts with a really nice rhythm and some aesthetic guitar. Matt’s voice comes in and it’s very smooth, then he hits a few high notes that sound effortless. The bass guitar for the chorus definitely has that rock vibe and I love how the chorus is slightly different from the rest of the song. The whole song is aesthetically pleasing. As the chorus changes, it begins to give off more of a rock vibe. It is just a great song overall.

On Your Mind: Immediately the guitar in this song is so nice. Matt comes in and his voice sounds a little muffled and it creates a different kind of overall mood. Throughout the whole song, the drums, bass, and guitar create such a beautiful, yet a rock vibe and it’s so hard to describe how well everything just goes together.

All Around the Room: The beat right in the beginning is so fun, and the guitar in this song is probably my favorite part of it. This is one of those songs that makes you want to dance around to with someone. It’s hard to explain, but I love how they made the vocals sound in this. At the end, the chorus plays one last time and then there are a couple seconds of guitar before it just stops. I really like how they created this song.

Right in Front of You: This song starts with such a calm vibe and then it gets louder. The guitar, bass, and drums come in with this really nice rock sound. This continues through the rest of the song. Not many songs start and transition like that, but I love it. I feel with this song, you could just jump around and let everything out. This song is kind of chaotic, in a good way. The song ends with some really fast drums, which is a perfect ending.

Andy: I really love the guitar in this song as well. Matt’s vocals are so smooth and calming; his voice goes perfect with the music they make. I would have to say that this song is one of the most beautiful ones on this album. This one is one that you could lay there and just kind of relax and just think a little. I like the way they somehow make an aesthetic rock vibe. I feel like that isn’t very easy to do. At the end, it’s just instrumental for almost a minute and it’s very relaxing.

Gold Star: This song starts immediately and sounds like you’re listening to it on an old radio. It clears up and the song almost gives me a “The Monkees” vibe. This song is so unique and has so many different transitions during it and reminds me a bit of the 80s. I didn’t write much about this song because there are so many things going and it’s so good that it’s honestly hard to explain.

Irma: The song starts with such a calm, beautiful vibe that sounds so nice. In certain parts of the song, it’s just the vocals for a few seconds and then the music comes back and I love that. Everything about this song from the instruments, to the vocals, to the transitions, to Matt’s yell is as perfect as it could sound, to me anyway. I think this one might be my favorite off of this album. It ends nicely with a really nice, yet quick, instrumental part.

Back to Your House: The vocals come in very quickly and, yet again, there’s a very nice beat. For a moment the music stops and then it comes back which I love. The whole song is calming, but also very danceable. Everything about this song is so good. There’s a part where it’s just bass, then the drums slowly come in, then Matt yells, the guitar comes in, and shortly we’re back to the chorus before it ends.

Still: Last, but not least, we have “Still”. This song is almost five minutes long and it has such a rock vibe, but again is also so artistic. The beat in this song kind of reminds me of “Silversun Pickups”. This is another one that is so good that it’s hard to describe. In part of the song, he says “sleep tight, socialite,” which is the album title. Towards the end of the song there’s an instrumental part that starts focused on really nice drums, then focuses on really nice guitar and everything just goes so well together. The end is quiet vocals as the instruments pick up a pace before the guitar rings out, bringing us to the end of the album. In my opinion, this song was the perfect way to finish.

In conclusion, this album is a bit more rock than their other songs and it’s a little different, but still very good. In fact, I think you all should go listen to this album (and their other songs). You definitely won’t regret it!
